MEET THE FOUNDER

Mike Branson – Founder / Owner

Hi, I’m Mike. I started Carve Your Own Path to support kids who don’t always thrive in traditional spaces—because I was one of them. That winding journey is why I do this work today.

My work in education and outdoor leadership is rooted in a simple goal: helping kids grow in ways that feel meaningful, supportive, and true to who they are. I’ve spent the past seven years in special education, working with students with a wide range of learning needs, including those with IEPs, 504s, and learning differences. I hold a graduate degree in Curriculum & Instruction and professional licensure in special education, which helps me adapt thoughtfully to each child and meet them where they are.

I’ve always believed that learning doesn’t just happen at a desk. A big part of my life has been spent outdoors—skateboarding, snowboarding, and coaching young riders, as well as guiding fly fishing trips and helping start skateboard clubs in Title 1 schools. These experiences have shown me how powerful it can be when kids are given space to challenge themselves, build confidence, and find joy in the process.

Creating safe, supportive environments is central to everything I do. Whether in a classroom, on a mountain, or by the water, I want kids to feel comfortable taking risks, trying new things, and being themselves.

Carve Your Own Path brings all of this together—education, outdoor experiences, and a belief that there isn’t just one way to learn or grow. When the traditional path doesn’t fit, we can create something different—something that works for your child.

If the traditional path to “success” isn’t working. Then Carve Your Own!
